Literature Review on IT Adoption Challenges in Developing Countries
QUESTION ONE
In advanced countries, IT has generally revolutionised all facets of life, including technology, business, education, and the global economy. Developing countries have yet to participate fully in this global revolution. Some challenges that developing countries encounter in transferring and adopting IT may include, but are not limited to, the recipient country’s government policies, infrastructure, training and culture.
As part of your research proposal, you must write a literature review exploring a specific challenge in transferring and adopting IT in developing countries. Your literature review must include a minimum of 3000 words to a maximum of 3500 words and adopt the following format :
- Introduction (200/300 words)
Start with a catchphrase; discuss and highlight the importance and significance of this topic to contemporary life.
- Background to the research problem (1000 words)
Contextualise the research problem to the research setting; start broad by discussing briefly the most significant challenges, and then filter the problem to a single challenge (the gap)
- The gap (1200 words)
Establish at least three primary authors who have different views on the research challenge, and then argue for the gap by presenting a convincing yet critical debate on their disparate opinions. In the end, clearly state your gap ( unanswered question or unresolved problem on the research topic )
- Methodology (300 words)
Outline your methodology; in other words, justify the approach and methods you would employ to collect and analyse the data.
- Conclusions. (300 words)
Argue for the importance, relevance, need, and who will benefit from this study.
Research Methods Answers: Expert Answers on Above Research Proposal
Introduction
Information technology plays a crucial role in the overall development of an economy if it is utilised in a positive way. However the issue with developing countries is the lack of their IT adoption because of a number of factors such as structural issues, policy and cultural barriers. Access to information is crucial in the 21st century but people in the developing economies are still digitally excluded. This research is therefore highly significant as it highlights the ways in which IT drives economic growth, education and innovation.
Aim:
The main aim of this proposal is therefore to explore a specific challenge such as inadequate infrastructure, weak government policy or lack of skills for the slower adaptation of IT.
Background of the research problem
IT has been significant in transforming healthcare, business and education in advanced economies, but the key challenges in the developing nations include government policies which are highly restrictive, and infrastructure gaps in the form of poor connectivity and unreliable electricity. In addition to this, the problems in the form of digital illiteracy also contribute towards low levels of adaptation of IT within such economies. Finally the cultural barriers in the form of resistance to change and low trust in technology is also a major contributing factor towards low IT adaptation rates.
Among all the challenges, the specific challenge that is selected for the purpose of analysis in the given research is government policies in the form of restrictive regulations in supporting the IT adaptation.
