Asana vs Notion: Best Project Management Tool for NeoVerge
QUESTION 1 [30 MARKS]
Read the scenario below, and answer the question that follows:
NeoVerge is a South African-based fintech startup that recently secured Series A funding to scale its mobile payment platform across Africa and parts of Europe. The company employs over 80 professionals, with its core software development and operations teams working remotely from South Africa, Nigeria, Germany, and the Netherlands.
As the business expands, it faces significant challenges coordinating project workflows across multiple time zones, ensuring secure document sharing, and keeping project communication streamlined. These issues have already delayed the beta release of their merchant integration API. Current project tracking is done via basic spreadsheets and email chains, which has led to duplication of work, version conflicts, and miscommunication between development, compliance, and QA teams.
To resolve this, NeoVerge’s executive team has tasked the new Software Project Manager (you) with evaluating and recommending a robust project management platform that can support:
- Agile software development sprints
- Cross-functional team coordination
- Secure document and access control
- Integration with tools like Slack, GitHub, and Google Workspace
- Scalable growth as new teams join across other time zones
After initial screening, two tools have been shortlisted: Asana and Notion. Both platforms offer task tracking, integrations, and workspace customisation. However, their scalability, collaboration features, and data governance capabilities differ significantly.

Instructions:
You are required to conduct a comparative analysis and critical evaluation of two leading project management platforms (Notion and Asana) within the context of NeoVerge Technologies (as outlined in the provided case scenario). This analysis must go beyond simple feature listing. You are expected to apply your knowledge of IT project environments, virtual team dynamics, and software scalability to offer a strategic recommendation that aligns with the company’s operational model and future growth plans.
Your evaluation must:
Contextualise the evaluation: Briefly restate NeoVerge’s current project environment, including its distributed team structure, collaboration challenges, and rapid expansion goals.
Compare functionality: Examine how each tool addresses key project challenges, including:
- Coordinating tasks across multiple time zones
- Managing secure access and document version control
- Supporting communication and integration with platforms like GitHub, Slack, Google Workspace
- Adapting to user growth and increased complexity
Apply relevant criteria: Analyse the tools using appropriate evaluation metrics, such as user interface, cost structure, scalability, integration capabilities, and mobile usability.
Justify your recommendation: Offer a reasoned conclusion recommending either Asana or Notion. Justify your choice using insights from academic sources, real-world case studies, and practical project management principles.
Use at least four (4) credible sources (academic, industry, or tool-specific documentation). All work must be properly cited using Harvard referencing.
Word count: 900-1,000 words.
QUESTION 2 [30 MARKS]
Instructions:
Virtual project environments have become mainstream in software development and IT management. However, decision-makers and even some project professionals often operate under flawed assumptions that can negatively impact project success.
In this task, you are expected to:
- Select and critically evaluate four common misconceptions associated with managing virtual or distributed project teams.
- For each misconception, provide a research-supported counterargument and discuss the real- world consequences of accepting these misconceptions uncritically.
- Reflect on how misinformation and unchecked assumptions influence decision-making in IT project environments. Reference at least one (1) real-world local or global project (success or failure) where these misconceptions had a noticeable impact. Provide a brief critical overview of what went wrong and how better understanding could have prevented it.
Use a minimum of five (5) academic sources and reference all work correctly using the Harvard style. Word count: 900-1,000 words.
QUESTION 3 [20 MARKS]
TechLogic Systems: Overcoming Knowledge Silos in Software Project Teams
TechLogic Systems is a mid-sized IT firm delivering custom software solutions across multiple sectors. While its teams produce solid technical work, the company suffers from repeated reinvention of similar solutions across projects. Senior developers store knowledge in personal files or informal chats, while junior team members rely on trial and error or tribal knowledge. The firm recently tried launching a KM initiative through a SharePoint-based system, but adoption has been low. Senior staff see documentation as an administrative burden, while leadership lacks a clear KM strategy.

Instructions:
In a structured report, address the following:
- Explain the importance of knowledge management in software project environments.
- Identify and discuss two practical KM models or tools that could be applied at TechLogic (e.g., Communities of Practice, Internal Wikis, Cloud KM systems).
- Recommend three practical, evidence-based actions that TechLogic’s leadership can take to embed KM as a natural part of project workflows.
Refer to at least two (2) academic sources. Your report may not exceed 800 words.
QUESTION 4 [20 MARKS]

- Describe one key product/service offered by each that supports IT project managers
- Highlight one credential or certification from each body relevant to software project management
