Hertzog and the representation of the natives act
The main purpose behind implementing the representation of natives act is to formalise segregation and limit African political life. The main purpose behind it is to strengthen white supremacy by removing Africans from the common voter roll and providing them with the only option of token representation through white officials.
Failure of the bantustan policy
The main reason behind the failure of bantustan policy is its design which is aimed at entrenching apartheid rather than promoting genuine independence. The policy has resulted in the fragmentation of South Africa into artificially created homelands with little economic viability.
Second World War and the ANC in the 1940s
There were social as well as economic challenges identified during the Second World War and it has resulted into African political activism which leads to the revival of ANC. The growth of ANC during the 1940s was also supported by the growing influence of youth activists, rise of new leaders and growing resistance to Apartheid policies.
