As a student teacher in the University of Zululand you will be engaged in teaching practice for the period 08/04 – 20/06/2025. During this period, you will be expected to observe teachers teaching English First Additional Language (EFAL) in the Intermediate Phase,at the school you are placed in. You, also, will be expected to teachEFAL in the Intermediate Phase.

Why are we teaching?
We are teaching EFAL with the objective of allowing learners to develop necessary communication skills in English. It is one of the most important languages to achieve success in Academics in South Africa. The main goal is therefore to allow learners to confidently make use of the English language for their reading, writing and speaking across their academics and professional life.
Towards which goal are we teaching?
The main goal is to allow the learners to achieve proficiency in EFAL by emphasizing on CAPS aligned outcomes. This includes areas such as writing skills, oral communication, improved reading comprehension, and their listening abilities. The main objectives can be to allow the students to develop sentences on their own, better ability to understand and learn texts and express their ideas in a positive way.
