Discussion on the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa

The anti-apartheid movement is referred to be one of the successful international social movements in the globalization period. Apartheid mainly encompasses three main aspects – domination by one racial group, an intention to maintain domination by one particular group, and inhumane act.  This massive movement commenced after a huge turnout by rural Afrikaners, where Afrikaners gave Daniel Malan’s Nationalist party a total of five seats in the Parliament of South Africa Union in the year 1948. With the struggle for freedom, Anti-Apartheid was one of the major social movements that the world had experienced. In most cases, this movement was not limited to South Africa but also supported Liberian movements in Southern Africa more broadly (Singh, 2018). The White South Africans (Afrikaners) had monopolized control over the economy that includes natural resources like gold reserves. The uniqueness of the anti-apartheid movement was that it got immense supports from the organizations, individuals, and governments of all the continents. Two main aspects were held by the anti-apartheid movement. The first one was the external campaign for the cultural, political, and economic sanctions. The second one was the conduct of an internal campaign to weaken racist apartheid present in different regions of South Africa.

The ultimate aim of the anti-apartheid movement was to end the supremacy of white in South Africa by black Africans. The internal struggle in SA was said to be the core and massive movement and it acts as a catalyst for both international and regional support movements. In the year 1950, there were strikes and also many of the workers had boycotted their jobs. However, the people who struggled had boycotted their jobs and did not receive anything special from the Government end. The governments only sent troops to the townships to get rid of strikes where a total of eighteen workers were killed. Furthermore, again a strike was called by the coalition and workers responded greatly.

Nelson Mandela was the Union Leader of Apartheid movement conducted in South Africa. The majority of the inhabitants were black and they were dominated by the white minority. Mandela and his members used certain non-violent tactics such as demonstrations and strikes to protect apartheid. The consequences of strikes were worst like some were killed and some were imprisoned including Mandela (Bogues, 2014). Furthermore, in the year 1952 thousands of activists were arrested for disobeying petty apartheid laws. Throughout the country, speeches were made by Nelson Mandela that illustrated the situation of black people to disobey apartheid laws. The government responded in terms of shooting demonstrations and imprisonment of some of the leaders. The internal struggles had galvanized the international movement. The issue of racial discrimination also came forward in-front of the Secretary-General of United Nations.

Based on Nelson Mandela, the deficit of human dignity in the country that was experienced by Africans was the outcome of White Supremacy. The struggle that was faced by the black Africans was against the White Supremacy. The struggle that they faced was the struggle for liberty and the struggle for leading a healthy life. Apartheid was after all not only a movement against discrimination rather was also against humanity.

Emergence and pursuit of objectives of the movement

The emergence of this movement was made to remove the racist activities conducted by the British against the rural Africans. This movement integrated the unique support to the individuals and governments present in all the continents. The pursuit of objectives present in the movement was the internal campaign to remove the racist apartheid regime present in South Africa and the external campaign for the execution of the economic, cultural, and political sanctions. This movement was of great support to the black Africans so that they can end the supremacy of the white people in South Africa. The internal movement conducted provided greater support to the establishment of a catalyst for the actions. The critical link was present which was providing coherence to the movement and also it created a stabilized environment. The external effort provided support to the gaining of regional efforts present in the military bases, diplomatic support, and materials for the liberation of the movements. The international sanctions were also gained against the regime that provided direct support to the execution of liberation movements. The changes in the liberal movements helped the black Africans to gain facilities from the political, cultural, and economic supports from the government. It also helped them in the formation of separate policies to strengthen the environment appropriately. The internal struggle established the core of the movement and also it catalyzed the regional and international support movements (De Gruchy, 2013). The effort was made to oppose the apartheid legislation imposed by the white elections conducted in the year 1948. The segregation was seen to be quickly passed with the help of legislations that were present in the movement. It not only helped to strengthen the nationalities and also helped them to gain their own property and also can reside on their own.

Global support and Dunnes stores workers strike in Ireland

The Dunnes stores’ workers strike in Ireland was raised due to the low hour contracts, job security, income security, and the right to represent the trade union. The strike was created due to the development of inequalities against the workers and also the inappropriate pay environment was created in the Dunnes Stores. Near about 80% of the workers were not consisting of any hint of their working hours from week to week. For this reason, a negative influence was created on the life of the workers and also there was no financial security for the workers present in the organization. This established an unfair environment, and as a result of this, it impacted the livelihood of the workers. The mandate union environment was created that refused to negotiate with the workers, and due to this reason, they attended the local labor court to gain justice for the unfair activities conducted by the organization against the workers. The staff present in Dunnes Stores gained support from the politicians and also it came across the political parties present in Ireland (Tui, 2015). The workers also went against the government ban created on the selling of South African goods in Ireland. This led to the development of opposition against the apartheid regime which was created against the government processes. As a result of this, it established an impact on the government environment, and also it established an impact on the equality made between white and black. The racist activities were conducted by the government and this led the workers to establish a battle against the government to create equality among them. This strike not only changed the situation of South Africa but also changed the environment of Ireland. The support was provided to the anti-apartheid movements. The outcomes led to the removal of racist activities and established equality in the organizational environment. The negotiation with the workers was conducted and also it helped them to create a long stabilized environment in the workplace (Uniglobalunion, 2015). The proper support was provided to the workers in the form of payments and working hours. The removal of these issues also created a strong environment for workers to gain equality in the work environment.

Influence it has on anti-apartheid movements today Palestine

The term apartheid has become a common legal term that is highly associated with South Africa. Moreover, it has become a universal term that commenced with South Africa but now is also conducted in several parts of the country. Based on these particular notions and ideas, Human rights found that the communities of Israel are committing some of the worst crimes that are against humanity. Henceforth, it can be stated that they are engaged in apartheid and persecution. According to Human Rights, it has been found that crimes take place within the Palestine Territory is under an Israeli Government. The Israeli Government maintains the domination by Jewish Israelis over the Palestinians. Certain systematic coercion is carried out including inhumane acts over Palestinians who are residing over there. The government of Israeli is the main authority of both Israel and occupied Palestinian Territory. To maintain domination over Palestinians, the Israeli officials constantly demonstrated a biased intention by controlling demographics and land by the Jewish Israelis (Hrw, 2021).

This can be illustrated as the ultimate aim of the Israelis or the Israel authorities’ goal is to maintain a good amount of Jewish majority throughout the country. They do this by intervening in Palestinian areas and help out Jewish areas to thrive. Basically, the Israelis maintain a two-tier system which provides an opportunity to the Jewish Israelis over Palestinians. There were lots of abuses that were conducted by Israeli authorities against Palestinians and this includes the delay of civil rights, confiscation of major lands, and rejection of residency rights (Birnbaum, 2021). It can be said that there is a requirement of close observation over the country and what the authorities are willing to do with the Palestinians. It is important to adopt an advocacy strategy that is focused on the immediate attainment of the full human rights of Palestinians. Moreover, Palestinian has certain rules and so Israeli Authorities must respect and give value to the human rights of Palestinians and they should be protected under international humanitarian law.
