INSTRUCTIONS
The Case Study is an important component of the Programme of Assessment in the CAPS Business Studies FET. Refer to the CAPS (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) Business Studies FET document, Section 4: Assessment (DBE, 2011:44-51) to familiarise yourself with the description and requirements for case studies and assessment in general.

  1. Watch the YouTube video on Krispy Kreme, titled ‘How a CEO Almost Killed a $Billion Company – A Case Study For Entrepreneurs. The link is available on Canvas.
  2. Use the YouTube video on Krispy Kreme as your case study to design an assessment task for your Grade 12 Business Studies learners. Link the case study to one or more of the following Grade 12 Business Studies topics in CAPS:
    • Ethics and professionalism
    • Macro environment: business strategies
    • Quality of performance
    • Investment: securities
    • Forms of ownership
Ensure that you familiarise yourself with the content of these topics in Business Studies by referring to your prescribed Business Studies textbooks. Pay careful attention to the validity of the assessment you design to ensure it adequately covers Grade 12 Business Studies content.
  3. Develop questions for the case study assessment, ensuring the total mark allocation for the assessment adds up to 50 marks. The questions in your assessment should:
    • Be clear and unambiguous. Use an appropriate standard and level of language to ensure that your assessment is fair.
    • Incorporate different types of questions and a variety of assessment styles, e.g. short/ objective questions, as well as subjective, paragraph style questions, etc.
    • Address each of the SIX cognitive levels outlined in Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy.

• Clearly indicate the cognitive level (Level 1 to Level 6) for each question next to it.
• Order your questions from Bloom’s Level 1 to Level 6.
• Indicate the mark allocation for each question clearly.

  1. Detailed assessment headers and instructions for the learners must be included.
    • The headers should include subject; grade; date; title/ topic; page numbers, as well as mark and time allocation.
    • Clearly indicate a suitable time allocation for the assessment to ensure it is manageable and places reasonable demands on all learners.
  2. Prepare a clear, detailed memorandum with suggested answers and a marking guideline for each question.
    • Include the memo directly below each question.
    • Ensure that you indicate the exact mark allocation and ticks.
    • Note that if you choose to use a rubric as a marking tool for one of your questions, a suggested answer is still required.
  3. Create a Bloom’s Taxonomy design grid to demonstrate how your assessment and total mark allocation of 50 align with the suggested percentages for the various cognitive levels. FORMAT

Part A must contain the following headings:

• Grade 12 Business Studies Case Study Assessment
• Memorandum
• Bloom’s Taxonomy Design Grid
• Reference List
